WASLA Course Development

Given the range and number of professional development opportunities available to landscape architects (see Resources), WASLA has chosen to currently concentrate efforts on developing Health, Safety and Welfare topics that members have expressed interest in.

LA CES

Approved provider status with the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LA CES™) is a service WASLA provides its members licensed in Washington State and those who maintain licenses to practice in other states. The LA CES program helps assure landscape architects and licensing boards that WASLA courses conform with standards for continuing education established by the national professional organizations. This is especially important in states that are more prescriptive in determining appropriate professional development activities than here in Washington State (see State CE Requirements Overview).

In keeping with the LA CES standards, WASLA:

  • Ensures CE sessions are non-proprietary in nature;
  • Evaluates course participants to ensure learning objectives have been met;
  • Reports participants' successful completion to LA CES and sends out Certificates of Completion for participants' professional records;
  • Maintains course and participant records for at least six years, in case of a LA CES audit of WASLA or a state-board audit of the renewing landscape architect.

Opportunities for program expansion

Because it will increase access to continuing education opportunities, developing a distance-education program is a high priority for the Professional Development Committee. Our sample distance-learning package has been approved by LA CES. We will keep you informed as we make progress toward this program goal.

The WASLA program will expand with the participation of active volunteers. If you have ideas, enthusiasm or expertise to share, please join us as we develop engaging and affordable continuing education opportunities: ProfessionalDevelopment@wasla.org
