About WASLA

Celebrating its Centennial Year in 1999, ASLA currently represents more than 18,000 members in 48 chapters across the United States with headquarters in Washington, DC. Private, public, and academic practitioners have a professional home at ASLA as do international practitioners and members of related professions.

The Washington Chapter (WASLA) was established in 1973 and today includes nearly 400 members around the state. The chapter holds up to twelve chapter meetings through the year, as well as a biennial Expo/Trade Show, annual university student award competitions and a biennial Chapter Awards Banquet.

WASLA helps fund student scholarships and the Architects & Engineers Legislative Council, and produces a monthly newsletter and website to keep members and others informed about issues and activities pertaining to ASLA and the profession.

WASLA members often participate in meetings and events with allied professional groups such as the American Institute of Architects, Urban Land Institute, American Planning Association and the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals.

Landscape architecture is the art and science of analysis, planning, design, management, preservation and rehabilitation of the land. The scope of the profession includes site planning, garden design, environmental restoration, town or urban planning, park and recreation planning, regional planning, and historic preservation. Practitioners share a commitment of achieving a balance between preservation, use and management of the country's resources.
