We work to preserve, heal and regenerate ecological communities by advancing knowledge, promoting sustainable practices and inspiring stewardship towards a healthy Northwest Environment.
- We create a culture of caring about sustainability and healthy ecosystems.
- We celebrate extraordinary work by providing awards.
- We support systems within the professional landscape design community in order to promote a healthy environment. Members participate in ongoing projects that further the possibilities in the realm of sustainability and environmental health.
- We create connections to National ASLA, Green Building Council, Seattle AIA COTE, Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle's Sustainable Resource Center, University of Washington College of Architecture and Planning and others.
- We gather and make visible the resources that will be helpful to landscape professionals to execute sustainable projects.
- We provide professionals with the resources that will help them to convince clients to build sustainable projects.
- We provide evaluation and feedback on ongoing projects and case studies
- We participate in development of LEED, Sustainable Sites, Living Builidng and other standards.
- We provide workshops, lectures and site visits in coordination with the Professional Practice and Continuing Education Committee
How You Can Be Involved
We are always seeking new members who want to advocate for sustainable choices in the built environment. If you are interested in joining us, contact chair COTE Shannon Eldredge or Marin Bjork.
Current Activities:The Committee on the Environment (COTE) will be focusing its efforts this fall on planning informational tours/ site visits for professionals and the general public around the city. The tours both virtual and real, will focus on various aspects of sustainable solutions in the built environment. The real tours will take place in spring and summer of 2012. We hope to make the virtual tour available in spring. If you have suggestions for projects to highlight please let us know.

We meet on the third Wednesday of the month in various locations throughout Seattle.
