WASLA Committee on the Environment

Formed in January of 2003, WASLA Committee on the Environment is working to preserve, heal, and regenerate ecological communities by advancing knowledge, promoting sustainable practices, and inspiring stewardship towards a healthy Northwest environment.

Committee goals are as follows:

At both the local, regional and national scale, we are working to address the following:

  • Education
Provide workshops, lectures and site visits.

Provide evaluation and feedback on ongoing projects and case studies.

  • Advocacy
Create a culture of caring about sustainability and healthy ecosystems.

Celebrate extraordinary work by providing awards.

  • Resource Development
Gather and make visible the resources that will be helpful to landscape professionals to execute sustainable projects.

Provide professionals with the resources that will help them to convince clients to build sustainable projects.

  • Best Practices/Standards and Specifications
Participate in development of LEED and other standards.

  • Network/Partnerships
Create connections to National ASLA, Green Building Council, Seattle AIA COTE, Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle’s Sustainable Resource Center, University of Washington College of Architecture and Planning and others.

  • Leadership
Create support systems within the professional landscape design community in order to promote a healthy environment.

Members participate in ongoing projects that further the possibilities in the realm of sustainability and environmental health.
