Professional Development

Committee Description

The Professional Development Committee strives to:

  • Actively support professionals’ continuing education needs;
  • Promote membership in ASLA’s Professional Practice Networks
  • Work with the professional community and other WASLA committees to strengthen our profession through educational resources.

In 2010, with the passing of Substitute Senate Bill 5273 in Olympia, Landscape Architecture in Washington State was advanced with a Practice Act. With this change came continuing education requirements that professionals must meet to maintain their licensure. We are working to expand our efforts to include:

How You Can Be Involved

We are a very active group and always have room for new members. We meet monthly via teleconference, making it easier for members across the state to take an active role in the Professional Development committee. Would you like to participate in committee activities and continuing-education planning? Do you have questions or comments for the Professional Development committee? Please contact any of the Committee members below.

Do you have ideas for events that would foster the exchange of ideas and knowledge between landscape architects and other, allied professionals? Do you have ideas for continuing education courses, or know of events or educational resources not listed in the WASLA Calendar or the Continuing Education Providers list? If so, please let us know. Better yet, please consider joining our committee.

Ongoing Activities

Continuing Education Events and Resources: We maintain and update the WASLA Calendar with continuing education events that are happening across the state and in Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia.

We are continuously updating our database of continuing education resources. This database includes landscape architecture and allied-profession resources that may be appropriate for professional continuing education credit.

Continuing Education Course Development: One of our committee objectives is to facilitate development of new course content suitable for CE credits. As we identify topics of interest to members we contact the landscape architecture and allied professional community to find individuals interested in making presentations at meetings and conferences. With development of the new Distance Education website, we will also make some of these courses available in electronic format.
