LECTURE ON THERAPEUTIC & HEALING GARDEN DESIGN AT BLOEDEL RESERVE

Many visitors to Bloedel Reserve come seeking healing and rejuvenation. During the Reserve’s month-long celebration of Nature and Well-Being in June, several noted speakers will give lectures on aspects of therapeutic and healing garden designs.

  • On Sunday, June 10 at 2:00pm, Patty Cassidy, a registered horticultural therapist, will talk about the historic interactions between people and nature, the restorative power of plants, and about specific benefits for aging and frail patients, and those with memory loss.
  • On Wednesday, June 13 at 10:00am, Dan Winterbottom, a registered landscape architect and professor at the University of Washington, will talk about the healing gardens he and his students have designed and installed at health care facilities and in war-torn regions around the world.
  • On Thursday, June 14 at 2:00pm, author Marty Wingate will talk about her newest book, Landscaping for Privacy: Innovative Ways to Turn Your Outdoor Space into a Peaceful Retreat, sharing a wealth of tips to make your garden a safe, secure and peaceful place.
  • On Saturday, June 16 at 4:30pm, Mark Epstein, a landscape architect and designer of therapeutic gardens for health care facilities, will give a talk on ways to adapt home gardens for owners with physical or cognitive limitations.

Throughout the month of June, the Reserve is offering classes and events to celebrate Nature & Well-Being. A temporary labyrinth has been installed on the Reserve, offering a perfect place for a quiet, contemplative walk.

The presenting sponsor of the month’s events, Peninsula Cancer Center, is offering free admission tickets for those that want to participate in a special event: “Walk with Your Doc.” Throughout the month, physicians, specialists and health care professionals will be available to take a refreshing walk with their patients on the Reserve. A schedule of participating providers is on the Bloedel Reserve website, and tickets are available in person from Peninsula Cancer Center, 19917 7th Avenue, Suite 100, Poulsbo.
