Alaska Airlines Copper River Campus Phase 1

Project Title:Alaska Airlines Copper River Campus Phase 1
Landscape Architect: Berger Partnership
Category: General Design, Private
Award: Award of Merit
Location: SeaTac, WA
Description:

The first phase of the Copper River campus embodies a sustainability ethos and commitment to the environment as well as a cultural shift for a commercial airline company. The first phase of site development is the paradigm for a new way of moving through the campus; employees and visitors are encouraged to connect with nature and the outdoors while also reducing their carbon footprint by walking rather than driving. All native plantings are inspired by Douglas fir forest and Garry oak savannah, with the four-acre temporary Roemer’s fescue meadow holding the place for future phases of construction while providing habitat for birds and insects. The amphitheater is used for multiple outdoor events and dining. In good weather, food trucks park along a promenade called the River. All stormwater is collected on site and celebrated in a central rain garden that has become the heart of the campus.
