Studio Hanson|Roberts

Job Description

Studio Hanson|Roberts is seeking a creative and collaborative designer with 4+ years of experience to join our 11-person team of architects and landscape architects. Working from our studios on Bainbridge Island, we specialize in the planning and design of zoos and conservation facilities worldwide as is evidenced by the following projects: Through recent work with a consortium composed of Massey University, the City of Palmerston North, the New Zealand Department of Conservation and the Rotary Club, we were able to lead a New Zealand-based team to conceptualize, design and build a first of its kind native bird rehabilitation and interpretive center, Wildbase Recovery. Here the public can learn about Massey University’s veterinary work with native birds and how they can help native birds thrive in a changing environment. Some of our current work includes multiple projects with the Auckland Zoo in New Zealand and Houston Zoo where we are working with Lake Flato Architects, as well as on-going work with the Taronga Conservation Society and Zoos Victoria in Australia. California sealions along BC’s “wild coast” and the importance of caring for our oceans are also on our agenda at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. Studio Hanson|Roberts offers competitive salary/benefits packages, consistent with experience and ability. Healthcare and dental are fully covered through Kaiser Permanente of Washington.

Job Requirements

Good organizational and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to think in 3-D and understand how materials go together. The essence of the job, however, will involve day-to-day design thinking with the ability to express ideas in a group setting through clear and compelling hand graphics, and translate those into digital graphics ranging from reports through construction documents. Technical emphasis is on the Adobe Creative Suite programs, 3-D modeling programs (Sketch-up, Rhino), AutoCAD, and experience with BIM or Revit if possible. The ability to coordinate with wide-ranging teams, standards and building codes; and to think in both metric and imperial scales are helpful.
